According to Janice, a descendant, he died enroute from South Carolina to Mississippi and his name was John Lewis Bryant.(no documentation from her)

  7. My ancestor was from the Peacock family. She was Anna Sophia Vanlandingham, granddaughter of Sophia Peacock (SP was b 1792 in NC daughter of Uriah and Susan, married Jethro Dean there, and after they had quite a few kids they moved to GA where she died in Wilkinson Co GA in 1869).

In the 1850’s Anna Sophia – with her husband Jesse Lord and one child – moved from Wilkinson Co GA to the SE corner of Arknsas (Drew Co).

In later censuses in Drew Co ARK we see the name Peacock appearing, and I am wondering if there were Peacock relatives that moved to ARK at the same time, in the mid-1850s. It would make far more sense than just Jesse and Anna taking off alone. An alternate possibility would be that once they got to Arkansas the Peacocks followed later.

So has anyone determined in their Peacock family research when Peacocks first moved to Drew Co ARK from GA (most likely) or perhaps from NC/SC? Any help will be much appreciated.

My great Aunt, Beulah Ann Robinson, born in Water Valley, Mississippi, married David Peacock, born about 1865 and died in 1938 in Houston, Harris County, Texas and that’s about all the facts that I have. Family lore says he made a “fortune” a couple of fortunes in the lumber business and their might be a tie to Tennessee, probably the Memphis area. Does any one know of this Peacock? I would appreciate any and all information and guidence. Thank you.

  23. A few responses:

Query Posted by David, Dec. 29, 2007:

My ancestor was from the Peacock family. She was Anna Sophia Vanlandingham, granddaughter of Sophia Peacock (SP was b 1792 in NC daughter of Uriah and Susan, married Jethro Dean there, and after they had quite a few kids they moved to GA where she died in Wilkinson Co, GA in 1869).

Answer: This one’s easy. The Peacocks who moved to Drew County were Jesse Peacock (1792-1870, son of Levi and nephew of Uriah) and his children. They had been neighbors in Wilkinson County, and surely knew of their relationship. But this is the first I’ve known of any of Jesse’s cousins moving to Arkansas with him.

From Sharon Welch, April 7, 2008.

I am interested in learning more about the family of Levi Peacock, Jr. (1786 SC – ca 1850 MS) who married second to Mary (maiden name unknown) Lee, widow of Stephen Lee. My husband is connected through Mary and her first husband’s daughter, Lincy Jane Lee, who married Joshua Sandifer. Does anyone know who Levi’s first wife was and how many children he had? I will gladly share what information I have on him. Thanks!

Answer: Alas, we don’t have any idea who Levi’s first wife was. But we do know he moved to Choctaw County, Mississippi, where the 1850 census shows that Mary Lee Peacock was born about 1777. He had at least three and probably four children:

Cynthia, 1808-after 1860, James Oliver Peeples.
    Mary (1810-after 1850, never married)
Joseph Allen (Oct 8, 1812-Sept.13, 1889, m. Elizabeth, Mary Jane Bramblett)
Sarah Anne (1825-75, m. Anderson Philpott)

The first three all followed Levi to Mississippi. The last ended up in Levy County, having apparently been left behind in Barnwell County, S.C., when the others moved West. Her family gives her father as Levi, but given the circumstances we wonder…

From Russell Haas, June 27, 2008:

My great Aunt, Beulah Ann Robinson, born in Water Valley, Mississippi, married David Peacock, born about 1865 and died in 1938 in Houston, Harris County, Texas and that’s about all the facts that I have. Family lore says he made a “fortune” a couple of fortunes in the lumber business and their might be a tie to Tennessee, probably the Memphis area. Does any one know of this Peacock? I would appreciate any and all information and guidance.

Answer: Don’t know if he made a fortune, but he did come from Memphis, where he appears in the 1900 census – still single then. But he was born in Scotland, and immigrated to this country in 1886. By 1910, he was married and living in Houston. No children; just some Robinsons, a Reder and a couple of Bakers. In-laws I presume.

She married my ancestor Thomas Alderson in 1741 in Arkengarthdale, North Yorkshire, England and died in 1753 in Arkengarthdale after producing two children. I think maybe her family had land in Arkengarthdale, as my ancester suddenly became a farmer. Do you have any information as to where and when Elizabeth was born? 33. I am impressed by the obvious size of your association and heartened by the interaction by officers-bearers of the association and your membership.
I live in Johannesburg, South Africa, but was born in Durban, on SA’s east coast. There are not many Peacock’s in SA and finding information on my ancestors has been a laborious task to say the least.
However, I’ve traced my Peacock line back to England, as far as I can go, given that I live so far away and have not had the time to travel there and research any genealogical records.
Keep up the good work. Best wishes ….Terry

  64. Hi,

I am trying trace the ancestors of Frank Peacock and Emily (Roland)Peacock of New Jersey. frank was born about 1875 in New Jersey, Emily in 1874 in Germany. Any help would be appreciated.
